Remembering the King of Pop
Michael Jackson’s true legacy was his musical gifts of songwriting and dance. Children of the 80′s will remember growing up hearing hits like “Beat It”, “Billie Jean”, and “Bad”. And who can forget the hit song “Thriller”? Even today the opening beats are instantly recognizable to most. Most also remember the music video for “Thriller”, which was actually almost a short film. Decades later this video is still heralded as one of the best music videos, ever. In the realm of dance, Michael Jackson introduced the world to the moonwalk and other unique steps. He was truly one of a kind.
Michael Jackson got his start in music as a young boy singing with his older brothers in The Jackson 5. Together the quintet enjoyed success from hits such as “I Want You Back”, “Rockin’ Robin”, “Ben”, and “ABC”. Later Michael branched out into a solo career and had early hits such as “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough.” His career took off in the 80′s with the release of the album “Thriller”, which is still one of the top-grossing albums of all time.
Jackson’s personal life was not without its problems; however after his passing in 2009 many remember him for the music that he gave the world. His legacy lives on in the new musical “Thriller Live!”, which is now showing in London. Fans who were lucky enough to meet Michael Jackson often commented on how accessible he was, and how he truly valued his fan base. Michael was also well known for his generosity. He was reported in The Guinness Book of World Records for “Most Charities Supported By A Pop Star” for his work with 39 different charities. Many remember the song “We Are The World”, which he co-wrote with Lionel Richie. Perhaps because of his efforts, many other celebrities use their fame today to make a difference for the good as well.
