What is it about Susan Boyle that has made such a dramatic impact on the internet and taken the world by storm? Why particularly is it this amazing “wee wifey” from Blackburn who has touched so many millions with the purity of her voice and her guts to go on that stage in January 2009 and sing her heart out at Britain’s Got Talent?
Probably there are as many answers as there are people. We will each interpret the affect she has had on us from our own perspective. Her global fame has certainly resulted in plenty of emotional issues being brought to the surface and articles and opinions have been flying around the internet ever since.
For me, it started when my cousin phoned me and said, “Google Susan Boyle” and when I asked why, she just repeated this phrase. So I put down the phone and googled “Susan Boyle”. My God that voice, that impact. Tears dart to my eyes even at the memory of that significant google in April 2009. Wow, wow, wow!!!
Since then I have joined a number of Susan Boyle fansites and follow Susan’s career with fascination and interest. Perhaps because she is as she calls herself this “wee wifey from Blackburn” it is her ordinariness that touches us. She is a far cry from other celebrities who tend to often feel superficial, glitzy and very far-removed from our own realities. Susan, we can identify with, we can feel her pain, her joy, her sorrow, her excitement, her victory, her not good enough.
We know this character and can empathize with the fact that she has been bullied and ridiculed all her life. We can be there at her dying mother’s bedside and know that sense of total helplessness and despair when her mother finally passes out of her body. My God and is that impact powerful!!!
